Beginning in December and running monthly through June, I (Harold) will be offering a Tefilah workshop as part of our 9:15-9:55 am Shabbat morning learning. Each session will focus on a different part of our Shabbat morning prayer service, with the goal to give you the tools, understanding and skills to better navigate our service and go deeper into your own prayer exerience.

Each session will feature:

  • key prayers in each section of the service

  • any special movements or choreography associated with specific prayers

  • a look at the meaning of key prayers

  • the poetry of key prayers

  • opportunities to personalize the prayers in a given section

While these classes are open to everyone, this can be seen an an introduction to our prayer service and so those who are new to Beth Am or to prayer in general are likely to benefit. Again, I would welcome novices and veterans alike to contribute to our conversation and learning. The schedule is as follows:

  • December 12 Introduction: Entering Jewish Prayer & Birkot Hashachar (Morning Blessings)

  • January 16 Pesukei Dzimrah (Verses of Song/Praise)

  • February 27 Shema Uvirchoteha (Shema and Her Blessings)

  • March 13 Amidah

  • April 17 Torah Service

  • May 15 Musaf

  • June 12 Concluding Brachot (Ein Keloheynu/Aleynu/Adon Olam)

No need to RSVP the class will go on with one person or one hundred.
