Beth Am Israel was founded in 1924 in Southwest Philadelphia. Our original building was located at 58th Street and Warrington Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia. Gradually over the years, people in the community started moving to the Main Line, and in 1973 Beth Am Israel moved too.
Our current building was built in 2003, and was designed to reflect the philosophy of the Beth Am Israel community. As a religious community, the sanctuary is at the heart of the building; classrooms surround the sanctuary, reflecting our belief that worship and learning are inseparable parts of a larger whole. Large windows, letting in light and views of nature, connect our community to the beauty of the world around us.
Today, Beth Am Israel remains a vibrant community full of talented, giving, and warm members. Our synagogue building is our gathering place, our sanctuary, and our spiritual home.
