When is the 5th and 6th grade Retreat?

Our 5th and 6th grade retreat will be Friday, March 15th through Sunday, March 17th 2019.

Why should my child go on the 5th and 6th grade retreat?

There are many reasons why this retreat is important for our 5th and 6th graders. One of our goals for this retreat is to help build and strengthen the 5th and 6th the community. Another goal is to help them start the learning about what it means to become B’nai Mitzvah. What does it mean for them and the community around them.  We will also be focusing on Jewish leadership and what it means to be a leader and Jewish adult. We know that’s a lot to fit into one weekend! But, it is a start on the B’nai Mitzvah journey! Lastly and most importantly your child should come on the 5th and 6th grade retreat because it is going to be FUN!

If my child is not enrolled in the Beit Midrash program can they still go on the retreat?

Yes, the retreat is open for all 5th and 6th graders at Beth Am Israel.

Where is the retreat located?

The 5th and 6th grade retreat will take place at The Pearlstone Retreat center in Maryland.

How much does the retreat cost?

How long will it take to get to The Pearlstone Retreat Center?

The drive to the retreat center is about 2 and a half hours.

How are you getting to the Retreat center?

We will be taking a coach bus.

What time will the bus be departing on the 15th and returning on the 17th from BAI?

The bus will be departing at 1pm on March 15th and will be returning around 12:30pm on the 17th. We will be updating via e-mail with any changes in schedule due to traffic.

Are electronics allowed on the retreat?

This is a Shabbat friendly retreat. We are asking that children try to unplug for the weekend, but if they need to have their phones they are allowed to bring them. All technology MUST remain in their rooms during the day.

My child takes daily medication, has an Epi-pen, has in case medication or other medical issues. How will this be handled?

One of our staff members will be in charge of the medication for the group. There will be a form for you to fill out which describes the medication,  the dosage and any other needs. The same staff member who collects the medication at the bus,  will keep the form and medication in a bag throughout the weekend.

Who will be staffing the retreat?

We have wonderful staff joining us for the retreat! Leo Furhman, Sarah Lefkowitz, Sara Chernov, Hazzan Harold and other teachers will all be there.
