Chaverim (friends),

As we wind down the week and enter into Shabbat I hope to offer a little bit of food for thought and reflection.

“Why it’s Crucial to Talk to Kids about Gender Pronouns” Time Magazine, June 3, 2021. https://time.com/6053526/children-pronouns-gender-inclusivity/
Time magazine interviews children’s books author Katherine Locke on their new book, “What Are Your Words?” The book tells the story of a kid named Ari, who is gender fluid and nonbinary and tries out different pronouns depending on how they feel on different days. Aimed at readers aged 4 to 8, the book follows Ari and his nonbinary uncle Lior as they try to figure out what words fit them.

We invite you to take some time to read the article and reflect on the following:

What in the article did you learn that is new to you?

What in the article did you learn that makes you feel affirmed?

What in the article makes you feel a bit uncomfortable or confused?

We, Donna Kirschner and myself, would love to have a community-wide discussion so please feel free to reply-all. Or, if you are more comfortable, we would be happy to have any 1:1 conversations with folks! Feel free to email us directly.
